PCZC Institutional Earthquake Drill: A Success!

Pilar College of Zamboanga City, Inc. conducted an Institutional EARTHQUAKE DRILL on November 11, 2020. The drill was supposed to be in connection with the Office of Civil Defense’s 4th Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (which was postponed due to bad weather in Luzon).

All school personnel participated in the drill which was headed by the School Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office. As per consultation with the focal persons of the Office of Civil Defense – IX and PhiVolcS, the drill was conducted with certain modifications. Apart from the usual “Earthquake Evacuation” routine, wearing of face masks and face shields was required from the participants with observance of good physical distance of 1 meter apart.

The students (and their families), who were in their respective homes on November 12, also participated simultaneously with the school. The students who participated executed the “duck, cover and hold” in response to the alarm and proceeded to their respective backyards for the evacuation. Photos were posted in social media with consent from their parents. The Nursing Program included the BSN students’ participation as part of their performance tasks in Emergency and Disaster Management Nursing courses.

The drill was evaluated by local evaluators from the school. The actual evacuation time recorded was 2 minutes and 60 seconds. Overall, the conduct of the drill was “very satisfactory” according to Mrs. Elnora Perez, the schools’ Internal Quality Assurance Officer (one of the evaluators). Thanks to the cooperation of the school personnel, administration and students. Congratulations to all the participants including the students and their families at home. Kudos also to the Disaster Control Group!

  1. It is great that the institution still conducted the earthquake drill amidst this pandemic and even though it was postponed due to the calamity that happened in Luzon and it is great to see that while doing the drill, the school personnel still followed the protocols (wearing of mask and social distancing).

  2. amidst of what happening right now (the pandemic) still the school of Pilar College of Zamboanga City manages to conduct an earthquake drill and there are also pictures taken that they have followed the said protocols by wearing a face mask and social distancing, this institution is truly following and is great fascinating.

Regardless of what is happening right now, Pilar College of Zamboanga City still has the audacity to conduct an earthquake drill and I’m glad that everyone in the pictures were applying the social distancing protocol while doing the earthquake drill and they were participating during the drill.
